Hillary Clinton lies again on TV about what happened at 2nd presidential debate with Trump
Former secretary of state and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton officially kicked off her book tour with a visit to CBS Sunday Morning for an interview with Jane Pauley, and Clinton shoved off by promoting an abject falsehood, which she writes about in her book What Happened that hits stores on Tuesday.
Near the end of the interview, Clinton revisited the topic raised in the first excerpt that publisher Simon & Schuster released last month: The second presidential debate against Donald Trump.
In the book excerpt, Clinton claims that Trump was “literally breathing down my neck” and “repeatedly invading” in her space on the stage at Washington University in St. Louis on October 9, 2016, two days after the leak of the infamous “grab them by the pussy” Access Hollywood tape. During her interview with Pauley, which aired on Sunday, Clinton doubled down on those claims.
“After we heard him admitting and laughing about sexually assaulting women and being able to get away with it because if you’re a star, you can do anything. So in my debate prep, we practiced this,” Clinton told Pauley. “The young man playing Trump would stalk me. And I practiced keeping my composure. I practiced not getting rattled. Well, it’s one thing to practice it. It’s another thing to be in front of, you know, 50 million, 60 million, 70 million people and having him scowling and leering and moving up on me. And — it– it was so discombobulating.”
Clinton added, “And so while I’m answering questions, my mind is going, ‘Okay, do I keep my composure? Do I act like a president?’ Or do I wheel around and say, ‘Get outta my space. Back up, you creep’? Well, you know, I didn’t do the latter. But I think in this time we’re in, particularly in this campaign, you know, maybe I missed a few chances.” Watch that clip from the interview below.

The problem is that none of what Clinton described actually happened during the debate. Perhaps the only time these events happened was during her debate prep. A thorough review by Page One of the complete tape of the second presidential debate shows clearly that at no time did Trump stalk or leer at or breath down her neck or otherwise invade Clinton’s space on the stage that night. The video record simply does not support her claims.
In fact, quite the opposite occurred. Clinton repeatedly ventured over to Trump’s side of the stage, standing right in front of him to answer several questions at various points throughout the town hall-style debate. Trump did not travel to Clinton’s side of the stage once during the entire debate — even when questions came from audience members seated on Clinton’s side. And several times Trump actually moved away and gave Clinton extra room when she walked over to his side of the stage.
In this age of “fake news” claims, it’s shocking that Clinton is attempting to advance such an explosive narrative based on a falsehood. What’s more shocking is that no one in the mainstream media is challenging Clinton’s claim — even though the complete video of the debate, which occurred less than a year ago, is readily accessible for review in many places online. The media are not doing their jobs when it comes to Clinton and effectively letting her rewrite history to advanced a narrative about Trump that has already been constructed. Indeed, the media never properly did their job in the way they covered Clinton during the 2016 race.
As for the incorrect claims in the book and now made on the record during a national television interview, Page One has reached out to Simon & Schuster multiple times inquiring whether the publisher will issue a correction. Representatives at Simon & Schuster have not responded. Watch the full 13-minute interview with Pauley below. For the rest of the day’s news, return to the Page One homepage.
